Phil had his first lesson in this incredible sport from fisherman Carl Hoffman who actually let Phil use his equipment.  (Carl sure didn't know about Phil's track record for losing lures or handles of reels)  So, Phil is not an expert yet but knows what boats are most suitable for fly casting and what types of live bait to bring along and where to take you for your best chances.

Fly fishing trips are available all year round but ideally, the spring months offer some good opportunities, basically when the big game are nowhere to be found, there are a good number of smaller schooling species within the bay.  You will need to bring your own equipment, we suggest a #9 or #10 rod and small streamer flies that resemble sardines or squid.  You can inquire before your vacation and we will let you know what the current bait conditions are at the time, click.  A super fast retrieval seems to be the secret in most cases, Phil will do his best to put you on the fish and the rest is up to you.

This is Steve Townzand with a Dorado caught on fly gear.  Steve has a guide service on the Trinity River in California and offers some pretty interesting trips.  Check out his web site.

And of course Phil in PV in his all time favorite photo of his first fly caught fish.  This photo was also taken by Carl Hoffman and Phil has definitely put it to good use.
