What a surprise for Phil to finally discover Cajon de Peas.  He had taken a few trips to Agua Milpa, a lengthy drive beyond Tepic that is nearly impossible to do in one day https://fish.travel/destination/us/fl/tavernier.  Cajon de Peas is just 1 1/2 hours to the south and a remarkably beautiful area.  A wildlife explosion of nature that is unbelievable.  In the course of the day, Phil saw eagles, egrets, owls, hawks, this is a bird watchers paradise.

And the fishing is an added bonus.  Upon arriving in the morning, Phil found Captain Jose and the canoe style panga was ready to go.  The scenery was fantastic and they passed island after island but the captain had his own favorite spot and he was right.  Phil landed a very nice 5 pound large mouth bass and was sold on Cajon de Peas.

If you have a rental car, just call Phil and he will give you directions to the lake.  On his first 2 attempts, Phil passed the turn off by 27 kilometers but he learned an important lesson.  If you reach the town of Tomatlan, you have gone 27 kilometers too far.

For an organized tour that is considerably more reliable than one that involves changing tires and replacing fan belts on Phil's Fish Mobile, Rancho Andrea is perfect.  They offer hotel pick up from the Vallarta area or will give you a designated pick up location if you are staying in Nuevo Vallarta or Punta de Mita.  They have two tours and their prices are very reasonable.

A day spent at Cajon de Peas is something that no Bass enthusiast should miss while vacationing in this area.  There is a minimum of 2 people for a tour.
